Google Drive is where many teams keep their documents. Odoo includes a native Google Drive feature that creates a Google document from a template and links it to an Odoo record, such as a quotation or a project.
Beyond that template feature, deeper file storage between Odoo attachments and Drive folders is a custom build. The right scope depends on whether you need template documents or full file synchronisation.
Data Flow
What Data Moves Between Google Drive and Odoo
The integration uses Google Drive APIs through an OAuth application.
Template documents: Odoo creates a Drive document from a template and stores the link on the record.
File storage, custom: Odoo attachments pushed to Drive folders, and Drive files referenced from records.
What Goes Wrong
Common Pitfalls
Scope of need. The native feature is template documents only. Folder synchronisation is a separate, custom build.
OAuth setup. A Google Cloud project with Drive API access is required.
Permissions. Drive file sharing and access must be handled so the right people can open documents.
Ownership. Drive files are owned by a Google account, which matters if that user leaves.
Storage limits. Drive storage quotas apply.
Setup
How the Integration Is Set Up
Decide the scope: template documents, file storage, or both.
Create a Google Cloud project with Drive API access.
Configure the native Google Drive feature for template documents.
For file storage, build and test the attachment sync.
