Zapier connects apps with no-code automations. For Odoo it is a fast way to bridge to a long tail of smaller tools that do not justify a dedicated integration.
The connection works in both directions: Odoo events can trigger a Zap, and a Zap can create or update records in Odoo. It suits light, well-defined automations rather than high-volume or business-critical data flows.
Data Flow
What Data Moves Between Zapier and Odoo
The integration uses Odoo webhooks outbound and the Odoo API inbound.
Odoo to Zapier: an Odoo automation sends a webhook to Zapier when an event occurs, which triggers the Zap.
Zapier to Odoo: a Zap creates or updates Odoo records through the Odoo API.
What Goes Wrong
Common Pitfalls
Right tool for the job. Zapier suits light automations. High-volume or critical flows are better as a dedicated integration.
No native REST API. Odoo uses XML-RPC and JSON-RPC, so writing to Odoo from Zapier is built around that.
Error visibility. A failed Zap can pass silently unless monitoring is in place.
Task cost. Zapier bills per task, so chatty automations get expensive.
Loop risk. Two-way flows must not trigger each other endlessly.
Setup
How the Integration Is Set Up
Map the automations and confirm Zapier is the right fit for each.
Configure Odoo automations to send webhooks for the trigger events.
