Google Analytics measures website traffic and behaviour. For an Odoo website or online store, it answers where visitors come from and what they do.
Odoo's website settings include a field for a Google Analytics measurement ID, so basic page tracking is configuration. Meaningful eCommerce measurement, such as add-to-cart, checkout steps and purchases, needs event tracking wired into the store, which is the part that takes real work.
Data Flow
What Data Moves Between Google Analytics and Odoo
The integration runs in the visitor's browser through the Google Analytics tag.
Page tracking: the measurement ID set in Odoo website settings enables page-view tracking.
eCommerce events: product views, add-to-cart, checkout steps and purchases sent as structured events from the Odoo store.
What Goes Wrong
Common Pitfalls
Page tracking is not enough. Without eCommerce events, Analytics shows traffic but not revenue behaviour.
Consent and privacy. Tracking must respect consent rules and a consent banner where required.
Event accuracy. eCommerce events must fire with correct product and value data, or reports mislead.
Cross-domain. If checkout spans domains, tracking must be configured for it.
Attribution gaps. Client-side tracking misses some conversions that server-side measurement would catch.
