Overview

What Authorize.Net Does and Why Connect It

Authorize.Net is a long-established payment gateway used widely in North America. Odoo ships it as a native payment provider.

A gateway sits between the storefront and a merchant account, so an Authorize.Net integration also depends on the merchant account behind it. The integration enables card acceptance in Odoo and keeps transactions reconciled.

Data Flow

What Data Moves Between Authorize.Net and Odoo

The native provider uses the Authorize.Net API.

  • Odoo to Authorize.Net: authorisation and capture requests, and tokenised card storage for repeat customers.
  • Authorize.Net to Odoo: transaction results, settlements and refunds.
  • Reconciliation: settled batches matched to Accounting.
What Goes Wrong

Common Pitfalls

  • Gateway versus merchant account. Authorize.Net is a gateway and needs a merchant account behind it. Both must be live before payments work.
  • Authorise then capture. The authorisation and capture model must match how Odoo confirms and invoices orders.
  • Transaction notifications. Result notifications must be configured for reliable confirmation.
  • Tokenisation. Stored payment profiles must be handled within compliance rules.
  • Batch settlement timing. Settlement batches close on a schedule that affects reconciliation.
Setup

How the Integration Is Set Up

  1. Confirm an Authorize.Net account and the merchant account behind it.
  2. Enable the Authorize.Net provider in Odoo with API login and key.
  3. Configure transaction result notifications.
  4. Decide the authorise and capture behaviour.
  5. Map settlements and fees to Accounting.
  6. Test, go live and reconcile the first batch.
